What is Mahiri HomeCare Companionship Services?

Mahiri HomeCare’s Companionship Services are intended to support our client’s Emotional, Mental and Physical Well-Being.

Our companionship care service enables our clients (elderly and adult) to create relationships they desire.  Companionship services are mostly none-medical care created specifically for you, and may include your existing hobbies and interests or new plans suggested by Mahiri HomeCare.  Some examples of the services are:

Keeping You Company

Our Professional Health Workers (PHWs) provide a friendly and familiar face for clients who may be alone or lonely because of loss of a loved one.  Loneliness may also arise because of  limited mobility, family members living far away or being busy with work.  The PHW can support you or your loved one around the house and whiles out and about.  They can engage with you with entertainment and hobbies such as: card games, board games, scrabble, storytelling, draughts, chess hobbies and more.

Community Sessions

Under Mahiri HomeCare’s companionship services we can also arrange events for groups, which our elderly clients may wish to join to enable them to meet and socialise with other elderly clients.  If you are an adult and would be interested in similar activities, please contact Mahiri HomeCare’s operations team for further information on activities and next scheduled dates.

Spiritual Mentoring

“Focusing on spirituality in health care means caring for the whole person, not just their disease.” — Tyler VanderWeele, Harvard Chan School

Nicole Rura, Harvard Chan School Communications (July 12th 222) suggests recent research has shown many elderly people benefit health wise from spiritual engagement of some sort, whether it is attending church, meditation, or having conversations about spirituality.  The study finds that for many patients, spirituality is important and influences key outcomes in illness, such as quality of life and medical care decisions.

Spirituality is also perceived as “the way individuals seek ultimate meaning, purpose, connection, value, or transcendence".  This could include organised religion but extends well beyond to include ways of finding ultimate meaning by connecting, for example, to family, community, or nature.

It is great there is such findings from esteemed researchers supporting one of the fundamental strategies we wanted to put in place in starting Mahiri HomeCare

In support of this philosophy, we have introduced Mahiri HomeCare Spiritual Mentoring Service for clients who wish to be supported in this way.  Mahiri HomeCare’s Spiritual Mentoring Service comprises of both online and face-to-face sessions with our qualified spiritual mentor.

Personal Activities & Holidays

Physical activities are important for the agility and strengthening of the body as we grow old.  Your PHW can assist with physical activities like going swimming or going out for a walk. If you attend social groups, classes or a community centre, the PHW can accompany you and offer support while you are there. They can also assist you on holiday, within the country.

Driving and Chaperoning

Getting from A to B isn’t always easy.  Our PHWs can either drive you or accompany you on public transport to wherever you need to go, be that to an appointment, day out or social engagement.   Please note, not all PHW can drive, and a special request must be made to find you one that can.  You will also require a 3rd party license to cover the PHW to drive your vehicle.  Our operations team will also be able to arrange transportation on your behalf.

Running Errands

Our PHWs are here to support you with some of the tasks that are now too difficult to do.  Whether it is accompanying you on your shopping trips, going to church or other place of worship, you can relax in the knowledge that you can achieve what you need to do.
